Château Grossombre de Saint-Joseph Red

Home > Our Wines > Our wines > Château Grossombre de Saint-Joseph Rouge

This remarkable wine immediately attracts one's attention because of its deep reddish-black colour. The bouquet strikes a fine balance between vanilla nuances, smoky aromas and ripe fruit (mainly blackcurrant) overtones. Château Grossombre starts out quite smooth and is altogether generous and well-structured on the palate. Spicy, oaky notes prolong the pleasure of this rich wine that deserves to age.

2014 château Grossombre de Saint-Joseph label
Appellation : Bordeaux

Wine style

Rich and Powerful

Grape blend

Merlot 50% / Cabernet Sauvignon 50%.

Weather

Winter and spring were very mild, but the summer of 2014 did not live up to our expectations: it rained heavily in July, and August was much cooler than usual. However, starting in September, a miraculous Indian summer with high temperatures, was very favourable to ripening.

Tasting Comment

Appareance

2014 Château Grossombre has a beautiful, elegant colour. This is very dark, almost black.

Nose

Both powerful and elegant, the bouquet features a complex range of ripe, well-focused red and black fruit aromas. Barrel ageing has conferred smoky and vanilla nuances, as well as hints of Virginia tobacco.

Mouth

Quite attractive and beautifully round, with a powerful tannic texture that comes through increasingly as the taste unfolds. Finishes with a long, generous aftertaste displaying superb tannin. Although there is clearly great ageing potential here, this wine is also a treat quite young with both white and red meat dishes.

2017 - 2022
