label of 2014 Cuvée Henri IV du Château de Barbe Blanche

Wine style

Rich and Powerful

Grape blend

85% Merlot / 15% Cabernet Franc

Weather

Spring was very trying, with considerable rainfall leading to fungal diseases of all sorts. This called for very close attention in the vines until the 14th of July, when the weather changed durably for the better.

Tasting Comment

Appareance

This wine has a beautiful intense crimson colour with deep purple highlight.

Nose

The complex bouquet is reminiscent of ripe black fruit and candied fruit, accompanied by very well-integrated oak.

Mouth

Merlot accounts for the wine's smooth attack, which is also round and generous. Cabernet Franc gives depth to the middle palate and the aftertaste is attractively fresh. The wine's wonderful concentration and elegant tannin are especially in their element as an aperitif, with pâté, or with beef dishes.

2018 Edition -  This Cuvée Henri IV has real panache! It is a deep colour with ruby-red highlights and has a slightly jammy, red-berry fruit bouquet with hints of violets, beautifully balanced with subtle vanilla, liquorice, and cocoa notes from the oak. The first impression on the palate is full-bodied and smooth, with generous fruit and the spicy overtones of well-managed oak ageing. Its tight tannic structure, a little unyielding on the aftertaste, indicates that this wine will age well. 2019-2023. fourchette Venison stew.
