Château de Cruzeau Red

Home > Our Wines > Our wines > Château de Cruzeau Rouge

Nature has been especially generous to Château de Cruzeau, whose superb gravel rises with perfect sun exposure were predestined for winegrowing. Such natural gifts could only produce an elegant wine reflecting one of the finest terroirs in the Pessac-Léognan appellation. The men and women who have made wine at Cruzeau since the 17th century have always worked hard to bring out its intrinsic personality and bouquet with hints of truffle and forest floor.

2015 red Château de Cruzeau label
Appellation : Pessac-Léognan

Wine style

Rich and Powerful

Grape blend

Cabernet Sauvignon 55% / Merlot 45%

Weather

2015 was the third warmest year since 1900... Drought conditions, above-average monthly temperatures and sunshine (in the first half of the year), cool nights and hot weather in August accompanying véraison (colour change) were all ideal for the vines!

Tasting Comment

Appareance

Garnet-red colour that is as lovely as every other aspect of this wine.

Nose

Ripe fruit aromas that develop with aeration. The hints of almond and vanilla from barrel ageing blend well with the fruity components.

Mouth

This wine has a rich, delicious flavour, as well as a fine tannic structure. It has a very long finish and will reach its peak in another 3 or 4 years. Ideal with lamb, steak, or roast chicken.

Relatively deep colour. An elegant wine with good depth. 3-8 years. (Bernard Burtschy)

The 2015 Château Cruzeau has a superb bouquet, very well defined with blackberry and wild strawberry scents, the oak neatly folded into the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with svelte tannin, peppery black fruit with a harmonious, gentle finish that feels long in the mouth. Bravo - this is an excellent Pessac-Léognan that I look forward to re-tasting once in bottle. (Neal Martin)

Dark crimson. Leafily attractive on the nose. Light and pure. Almost floats away! Drink 2022 - 2033.

Inky black plum and roasted chestnut aromas and liquorice and damson palate; restrained yet spicy. Cruzeau has excellent gravel terroir and should be a contender to join the GCCs if they ever did a new ranking. Grippy tannins offering ageing potential but approachable relatively soon. Drink 2022 - 2033.  (Jane Anson)
