Major renovations at Château de Barbe Blanche in time for the 2014 vintage
An in-depth renovation took place at Château de Barbe Blanche in the Lussac Saint-Émilion appellation in preparation for the 2014 harvest. The vat room was modernised, a new grape reception area built, and a new grape sorting system introduced... The purpose of this project was to enhance the winemaking facilities in the framework of our Environmental Management System , to reduce energy consumption, to improve working conditions and, above all, to participate in our ongoing quest for maximum quality.
The 2014 vintage: a miraculous Indian summer!
This was not an easy year for winegrowers...
The weather during the 2014 growing season was capricious in spring, not very warm in summer – but nothing short of miraculous in September and October.
What a splendid gift Mother Nature gave Bordeaux in 2014: the sort of Indian summer such as the region had not experienced in years! The grapes reached perfect ripeness and there is every indication that this will be a great year in our vineyards.
A trip to Epicurus' Garden to meet the stars...
The centre of Bordeaux becomes effervescent in the middle of June, like it does every year at the beginning of summer. Why all the excitement? The return of Epicurus and his stars...
No, these are not the stars of the nearby Bordeaux Opera, but those of French gastronomy who pay homage to fine cuisine and those who love it by devising an unforgettable menu every evening at the Étoiles d’Épicure restaurant. This ephemeral venue, located on the Allées de Tourny, is emblematic of the Épicuriales, an event revolving around fine food and wine that celebrated its fifth anniversary this year.
Vignobles André Lurton, faithful partners of the Épicuriales, were present at 2 of these dinners during which their wines were complemented by dishes prepared by three Michelin-starred chefs: Patrice and Xabi Ibarboure, and Nicolas Frion. We were delighted to meet the stars and provide the wines to accompany them...
2013 red wines en primeur: good things come to those who wait...
Many professionals agree that tastings of the 2013 vintage red wines from the 4th to the 8th of April took place much too early this year.
2013 primeurs : a beautiful vintage for white Pessac-Léognan wines
The presentation of barrel samples of the new vintage for Pessac-Léognan wines took place in early April at Château Malartic-Lagravière. Vignobles André Lurton were obviously represented at this important event. Promotion is especially important this year because of the difficult economic climate and the fact that the 2013 vintage was a challenging one in Bordeaux due to uncooperative weather.
Wine professionals from around the world nevertheless came to this major event: merchants, journalists, brokers, and other specialists were there to evaluate a vintage that was sometimes criticised even before it was tasted...
Fortunately, feedback was largely positive for the Pessac-Léognan appellation, and 2013 has some very pleasurable wines in store for us!
