2013 vintage at Château de Barbe Blanche : retrospective and first impressions...

Merlot: star of the 2013 vintage in Lussac-Saint-Emilion!

Château de Barbe Blanche

The harvest at Château de Barbe Blanche began on 2nd October.

The Merlot grapes did especially well and, unusually, were superior in quality to the Cabernet Franc this year. Merlot thus constitutes the strong point of this vintage in the Lussac-Saint-Emilion appellation.

The grapes were in great condition and perfectly ripe. The berries may have been rather small, but had excellent levels of tannin and anthocyanins. Initial tastings show the wine to be deeply-coloured, concentrated, well-balanced and with good acidity, which bodes well for ageing potential.
