A visit to Vignobles André Lurton by students from the Namur Hotel School

Visite école hôtelière de Namur 2

On the 2nd and 3rd of February, Vignobles André Lurton welcomed 37 students and their professors from the Hotel School in Namur (Belgium).

This school, established 77 years ago, teaches courses in the hospitality industry (restaurants and hotels) to students aged 14 to 18. They also accept somewhat older students who already have a few years of professional experience after their baccalaureate diploma and who wish to work in a restaurant or as a sommelier.

At the end of their studies, these students must do an internship (in establishments ranging from simple brasseries to Michelin-starred restaurants, depending on their level), as well as a trip to a wine region.

This is what brought these young people to Bordeaux, and to meet us. For a few hours, they were able to compare their theoretical knowledge with reality in the field. A great experience! Our cellarmaster at Château La Louvière, Jean-Marc Comte, shared the secrets of making white wines. Then it was Laurent Bouthonnier's turn to give a detailed explanation of how red wines are made at Château de Rochemorin.

After a lively question and answer session, it was time to taste some of our wines from Pessac-Léognan: 2012 white Château Coucheroy, 2010 white Château de Rochemorin, 2008 red Château La Louvière, etc.).

The next day, the group went to Château Bonnet in Grézillac, where they met cellarmaster Laurent le Dez and tasted the rosé wine from Château Bonnet and a 2014 white Château Bonnet Entre-Deux-Mers. Their visit ended in the Lussac-Saint-Emilion appellation, at Château de Barbe Blanche, with a tour of the cellars, the quarry, and a final tasting...

This was a fun, but also an educational experience since a student was designated at each tasting to share precise tasting notes in front of the group!
