Vinexpo 2013 : A very worthwhile, promising event...

Vignobles André Lurton once again participated in Vinexpo Bordeaux, a major trade fair for the international wine and spirits trade. Initial figures show that there were more than 48,800 visitors in 2013. The professional atmosphere at Vinexpo was reflected by the Vignobles André Lurton stand, where an uninterrupted flow of visitors were able to take part in remarkable tastings as well as sample delicious wine and food pairings.

Attendance may have been significantly less than in 2011 (the final figures are not in yet), but the general consensus was that the meetings and discussions that took place during the trade fair were very professional, with numerous opportunities to do business on various markets.

In terms of exports, the US was well-represented by many of the country's important players and decision makers. Hopefully, this reflects the beginning of an economic recovery on the other side of the Atlantic. Faced with a major crisis two years ago, the American trade thought it best not to make the journey to Bordeaux. However, the many wines bought by American importers on a futures basis (en primeur) this year – despite varied opinions of the 2012 vintage – is another sign of US economic recovery. The Canadian contingent continued to grow, but the number of wines on this attractive market has increased markedly, sometimes to the detriment of well-established brands. We need to maintain our market position there in a context that has become much more competitive.

As regards Europe, we were delighted to welcome our distributors Jacques’Wine Dépôt and Denner, whose absence we regretted the past few years. So it was a great pleasure to see them again.

As for Asia, we were visited by trade professionals from Korea, Singapore and Japan, as well as China – even though the market there is currently rather difficult, partly because of budgetary restrictions by public authorities.

As for the French supermarket sector, Vinexpo was a great occasion to meet with all of the nationwide buyers for the various chains, to take stock of business and to show some new wines (above and beyond the traditional range). Vinexpo also provided an opportunity to see thirty clients and agents from the French on-trade sector. This was much the same as in 2011, although there were more potential new clients in 2013.

Vignobles André Lurton took advantage of Vinexpo to present new products, especially the limited edition Heritage range in keeping with demand from export markets, especially China. New gift boxes, reminiscent of spirits packaging, were also very well-received by our customers. In short, the entire sales department felt that Vinexpo 2013 was a dynamic, professional trade fair that augured well for the future.

However, this event would not have been complete without a gala evening to welcome and thank all our clients.
