Group President

Born in 1959, Jacques is André Lurton's sixth child. This nature lover combines his interest in agriculture with his passion for science and new technology. He therefore chose to become an oenologist and later graduated with a degree in Oenology from the University of Bordeaux in 1983. Soon after, he moved to Australia. The land of freedom of expression and creativity, the New World provided Jacques with an opportunity to discover alternative technologies, little-known in Bordeaux.

Job and know-how

Jacques was appointed Technical Director of the Vignobles André Lurton estates upon his return to Bordeaux in 1985. His contacts with the Bordeaux Institute of Oenology (particularly Émile Peynaud, red wine specialist and Denis Dubourdieu, white wine expert) and openness to innovation helped him produce some of Bordeaux's most sought-after wines.

Jacques founded JFL, a winemaking services company alongside his brother, François, in 1988. They later purchased numerous estates in the south of France, Spain, Portugal and South America in the 1990s. During this time, Jacques travelled around the world fulfilling his passion for winemaking. His expertise acquired over the years, particularly in white winemaking, is internationally renowned.

In late 2006, he sold his share of the JFL company to his brother in order to work as a wine cellar consultant in Bordeaux and the Loire Valley, but above all for The Islander Estate on Kangaroo Island in Southern Australia, which he purchased in 2000.

Jacques thrived off the challenge to produce high-quality wines combining Bordeaux traditions and the innovative, laid-back style of the New World. Following the death of André Lurton in May 2019, Jacques decided to take over the family business along with his brother and five sisters and was appointed President of Vignobles André Lurton.

His aim is to continue offering wine lovers from around the world the kind of pleasure that can only be found in tasting a bottle produced by Vignobles André Lurton.
