Vineyard manager for Great Wines /Cellarmaster of Château Couhins-Lurton

Sébastien Ravilly was born in 1976 in Ploemeur (Brittany). After receiving his scientific baccalauréat from the Lycée (high school) in Rennes, he travelled widely throughout France in keeping with his parents' professional obligations.  Studying at preparatory classes for the Grandes Écoles in Orléans, he also began to work towards an associate degree in science in Bourges. Introduced to the greatest wines of France by his father, who also had a background in chemistry, he decided to combine the two interests to make oenology his profession subsequent to an advanced vocational certificate from the Lycée de Libourne-Montagne in 1999.

Job and know-how

Sébastien Ravilly discovered Château Bonnet in September 1999, when he was a trainee involved in the white wine vintage.

The following year, Vignobles André Lurton aquired a 50% shareholding in Château de Barbe Blanche  in Lussac-Saint-Émilion. Sébastien Ravilly was asked to look after vineyard and cellar management under the supervision of Michel Gaillard starting with the mythical 2000 vintage.

As of then, he has had only one goal: to develop the vineyard, which was sorely in need of improvement. Major efforts have been made since (replacing individual vines, restructuring, reintroducing grass between vine rows, etc.). Today, the vineyard is unrecognisable and the progress made has led to a marked improvement in the wines of Château de Barbe Blanche.

In 2017, Sébastien left Château de Barbe Blanche and was appointed vineyard manager for the Grands Crus division of Vignobles André Lurton. He now manages Château La Louvière and Château Couhins Lurton vineyards. Alongside his new role, he also works as a cellarmaster at Château Couhins-Lurton, a 1959 Grand Cru Classé de Graves.
