Château Coucheroy Red

"Couchiroy" or "Couche Roi" in Gascon. According to legend, one stormy evening, King Henri IV, returning from the Battle of Coutras, stopped here for a rest. This red Pessac-Léognan is easy-to-enjoy, smooth and fruity. It nevertheless displays the elegance and finesse typical of wines from this region of Bordeaux Graves. Weather

While January and February were colder than average, 2009 was nevertheless a warm year (one of the warmest in a century). There was a great deal of sunshine and a remarkable drought during the summer months.

Tasting Comment

Appareance

Brilliant garnet-red with a few orange highlights on the rim showing that this beautiful wine from Pessac-Léognan is beginning to reach its peak.

Nose

The nose is intense with smoky, toasty nuances typical of gravel soil such as that found at Château de Coucheroy. Overtones of leather add complexity to the attractive fruitiness.

Mouth

The wine is smooth and elegant on the palate, with a concentrated, suave, long aftertaste showing well-integrated tannin. This wine is perfect with grilled red meat or sweetbreads. He may possibly have enjoyed it with a slightly caramelised sweetbread terrine...
