Château Couhins-Lurton Red

Home > Our Wines > Our wines > Château Couhins-Lurton Rouge

Château Couhins-Lurton is the emblematic estate of the André Lurton family. With a sublime terroir of gravel and clay, the red wines are made from fruity and smooth Merlot grapes of great elegance and a sophisticated smokiness.

label of 2020 Château Couhins-Lurton red
Appellation : Pessac-Léognan

Wine style

Rich and Powerful

Grape blend

Merlot 85% / Cabernet Sauvignon 15%

2020 was marked by very mild temperatures and contrasting precipitation: heavy spring rainfall was followed by an intense summer drought. The fairly mild winter led to early bud break. The summer heat gave way to cool nights in late August, ideal for ripening grapes.

Tasting Comment

Colour is a very dark purple-red, almost black, with purple highlights.

The nose is very intense, marked by notes of black fruits (blackberry, sour cherry, elderberry). The whole is enhanced by a slight smokiness and some sweet spices.

On the palate, it is a very rich wine, with a good structure and ripe tannins. Its freshness is particularly pleasant. It is a very elegant wine, full of finesse. Its ageing potential is remarkable. It can be waited for a few years (3 to 4 years), before being enjoyed with oven-roasted suckling lamb, a risotto with ceps, or even a capon fricassee with truffles for a special occasion. A great moment of tasting!

Blueberry, blackberry and some cedar and lavender. Medium-bodied with polished tannins and a fresh, lingering finish. Very well made.

Dark purple red with violet hue and black core. Intense nose with multi-layered character, blackberries, elderberries and black cherries, graphite and hints cold smoke, elegant oak and mild spices in the background. On the palate well rich and well structured with wonderful freshness, ripe tannins, backed by lingering fruit and mild spices, very elegant with depth and convincing potential.

This wine takes us on an exciting journey. A seductive nose of blueberry pie and aniseed candy. And what a mouthful! Always on the thread of sweetness; this one is juicy, ample, gourmet while being dynamic. It is generous and long. An impressive wine of great class.

Carefully extracted and well placed, this has a ton of structure and freshness but also depth to the raspberry and black cherry fruits. This is really going to go the distance, super elegant and finessed, and has concentration in all the right places. Easy to recommend. Drinking Window 2026 - 2042.
