Château Grossombre de Saint-Joseph Red

This remarkable wine immediately attracts one's attention because of its deep reddish-black colour. The bouquet strikes a fine balance between vanilla nuances, smoky aromas and ripe fruit (mainly blackcurrant) overtones. Château Grossombre starts out quite smooth and is altogether generous and well-structured on the palate. Spicy, oaky notes prolong the pleasure of this rich wine that deserves to age.

Appellation : Bordeaux supérieur

Wine style

Rich and Powerful

Grape blend

Cabernet Sauvignon 50% / Merlot 50%.

Weather

Spring was very trying, with considerable rainfall leading to fungal diseases of all sorts. This called for very close attention in the vines until the 14th of July, when the weather changed durably for the better.

2015 Edition - Located in the Entre-Deux-Mers, like the "mother estate" in Grézillac, Grossombre (12 hetares) belongs to Béatrice Lurton, one of André Lurton's daughters. Equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, aged in barrel for six months. A black colour with deep purple highlights and an expressive, elegant nose of black fruit, violet, brioche, and spice. Not overpowering on the palate, but round and generous with a long aftertaste of blackcurrant and blueberry. 2016-2020 / Duck breasts.
