Nestled on one of the numerous slopes in the Entre-Deux-Mers, just a short distance from the famous medieval town of Saint-Emilion, Château Guibon has a very long history. The monks at the neighbouring abbey of La Sauve Majeure are known to have made wine on clay-limestone terroir here in the 17th century. This was already much appreciated by connoisseurs. The reds are full-bodied and vigorous, and become smoother 2 or 3 years after the vintage.
Tender and Aromatic
Cabernet Sauvignon 50% / Merlot 50%.
The main features this year were humidity and cold. There were heavy rains in April and May (during the vegetative cycle) and a cool summer, especially in June and August. Warm, dry weather in September enhanced ripening.
Intense, bright garnet. Remarkably youthful.
The nose shows equally intense red fruit notes (redcurrant, raspberry), which again highlight the wine's youth and freshness. After agitation, shows toasty, spicy undertones.
Soft, ample, mouthwatering, the tannins are elegant, mellowed with aging. Noteworthy length and persistence, can be enjoyed now with delicatessen, tajines or a veal roast.(January, 2012)
