Château Guibon Red

Nestled on one of the numerous slopes in the Entre-Deux-Mers, just a short distance from the famous medieval town of Saint-Emilion, Château Guibon has a very long history. The monks at the neighbouring abbey of La Sauve Majeure are known to have made wine on clay-limestone terroir here in the 17th century. This was already much appreciated by connoisseurs. The reds are full-bodied and vigorous, and become smoother 2 or 3 years after the vintage.

2014 red Château Guibon label
Appellation : Bordeaux

Wine style

Soft and Sensual

Grape blend

Cabernet Sauvignon 50% / Merlot 50%.

Weather

Winter and spring were very mild, but the summer of 2014 did not live up to our expectations: it rained heavily in July, and August was much cooler than usual. However, starting in September, a miraculous Indian summer with high temperatures, was very favourable to ripening.

Tasting Comment

Appearance

Clear, ruby-red colour.

Nose

We were pleasantly surprised by the intensity of the fruit, particularly reminiscent of redcurrants and blackcurrants.

Mouth

Full-bodied and rich on the palate, with very smooth tannins. The freshness of its red-berry fruit (redcurrants, cherries, etc.), combined with lovely balance and good structure, follow through in a very long aftertaste. This easy-drinking wine is best enjoyed young, to appreciate its full fruity potential, as an accompaniment to roast chicken or mushroom omelette.
