Château La Louvière has long been famous for its white wines. In fact, these already highly-prized by Canadian merchants in the 17th century ! A century later, they were to be found on the finest tables in Saint Petersburg. The very elegant white La Louvière is now among the finest dry white wines in the Graves, and is a fine ambassador for the Pessac-Léognan appellation. Marked by the Sauvignon Blanc varietal character, but not overly so, it can age remarkably well.
Elegant and Fruity
Sauvignon blanc 100%
2020 was marked by very mild temperatures and contrasting precipitation: heavy spring rainfall was followed by an intense summer drought. The fairly mild winter led to early bud break. The summer heat gave way to cool nights in late August, ideal for ripening grapes.
Colour is pale yellow with silver highlights.
Nose is intense, complex, revealing delicate notes of white fruit (pear, peach) and citrus (pomelo, lime).
Attack is ample. It is a fine and elegant wine, with a lot of volume in the middle of the mouth: a nice fatness, a nice freshness, a well-integrated woodiness. The notes of ripe white fruit (pear, peach) and citrus peel blend harmoniously together, enhanced by a hint of vanilla. Long and complex finish. All the qualities of this great white wine can be appreciated with "bouchées à la Reine" with sweetbreads, baked fish, or a cheese platter.
Big, rich aromas, peach, citrus, white flowers, fine barrel nuance. Full-bodied, rich, creamy flavour with a long, rich finish.(Peter Winding)
Ample and fleshy on the palate, very round, with notes of ripe pear and vanilla, it becomes more refined in the middle of the mouth and a tense match between a mellow roundness and a slightly lemony acidity which imposes itself on the finish.
Bright Sauvignon Blanc aromatics on the nose, this is good quality. Power, concentration and spliced citrus and slate minerality. Maintains momentum, easy to love. A yield of 31hl/ha, with 10 months ageing on lees with regular stirring in to fatten up the mouthfeel. An impressive La Louvière, stands out from recent vintages at this estate.
The 2020 La Louvière Blanc, which is pure Sauvignon Blanc cropped at 31hl/ha, has an attractive bouquet of orange pith, apricot, persimmon and beeswax scents that gain complexity with aeration. The palate is well balanced, offering crisp acidity that neatly counterbalances the mango and citrus peel notes, and lightly spiced toward the finish, which feels persistent on the aftertaste. This is a classy La Louvière Blanc.(Neil Martin)
