Château La Louvière has many fascinating facets. The sumptuous architecture of the château building dates from the late 18th century, but winegrowing here goes back more than 700 years. The first vines were planted circa 1310, although modern winemaking dates from the 17th century and was handed down by able monks from the Carthusian monastery in Bordeaux, who had acquired considerable talent as viticulturists and winemakers. The people who produce the wine in the 21st century have inherited these time-honoured methods, adding just the right amount of innovation and modernity to make the utmost of the outstanding terroir. La Louvière's red wine has a dark colour and an elegant bouquet with delicate hints of oak...
Rich and Powerful
Cabernet Sauvignon 64% / Merlot 30% / Cabernet Franc 3% / Petit Verdot 3%.
The main features this year were humidity and cold. There were heavy rains in April and May (during the vegetative cycle) and a cool summer, especially in June and August. Warm, dry weather in September enhanced ripening
The Château La Louvière 2008 is a deep, dark garnet.
The elegant nose is already an expressive blend of ripe berry, mocha licorice and charcoal, and will undoubtedly show even more complexity after a few months in bottle.
The palate is round, silky and full of character, with enveloping, velvety tannins. The finish, a mix of toasty notes and black fruits, is long, almost endless, and elegant. Worth waiting a while, will be perfect with a rack of lamb or tournedos.
Special Wines - Spicy. Long. Has the classic firmness of the 2008s. Excellent tannic structure. Needs a little more time. (Bettane & Desseauve)
Dark, youthful colour of average depth. Beautiful bouquet similar in both the decanted and non-decanted versions. Elegant, fruity, and subtle. Quite delicious and aromatic on the palate with medium body and long-lasting flavours, like a Burgundy. Still seems slighting tannic. 2014-2025.
Deep ruby colour with a crimson reflects. Nice aromas of raspberries, cherries, blueberries, cedar wood, bacon and grilled flavour. Straight forward taste, with dry tannins. The texture lacks expression, with smoked wood, moka and cocoa. Medium length. Short finish. Tasted in 2012.

This 2008 shows a nascent bouquet blending toasty notes with ripe plum and cherry. The tannins give body and structure, the fruit is somewhat retiring at present with the oak taking centre stage; the finish is chewy and the palate needs 2 or 3 years in bottle, maybe more.
A textbook Pessac, lightly smoky, gently mineral.
Excellent roasted notes, the sample is exceptionally fresh and bright, good body, powerful tannins give it a classic style. A wine for the connoisseurs who likes wines that are structured and traditional in style. One of the best wines – if not the very best - in the last 10 years from this domain.
Exceptionnal quality.
Crisp, fruity, with dense, juicy tannins, smooth, no harshness, strawberry and lemon fruit-drop finish ; pleasing 2014-2020.

Attractive deep colour. Oak dominates for the moment. Spicy nose, black fruits, graphite, quite complex. Dense palate, tight with a lot of presence. Good depth, a fine production for this estate.

Smoky, dense fruit, firm tannins, more depth than charm. (2015-25)
Elegant, melting nose, with attractive fruit and pleasing flinty notes. The palate is full, smooth, rich and ripe, with plenty of fruit and freshness. A pretty wine, shows potential.
Toasty, coffee notes, ample palate, smooth, chocolate, mellow, well-crafted oak, modern style with well-crafted tannins, well made, very enticing. 2015/15 years. (Jacques Dupont)

Black-red, crushed blackcurrant fruit with a certain smokiness on the nose, finely concentrated ripe berry fruit on the palate, firm tannins, more depth than charm. Drink 2015-25.
Balanced already, the caramel edge of wood well integrated with the soft, attractive tannins. The final is fresh, but remains soft. (Roger Voss)
