Nature has been especially generous to Château de Cruzeau, whose superb gravel rises with perfect sun exposure were predestined for winegrowing. Such natural gifts could only produce an elegant wine reflecting one of the finest terroirs in the Pessac-Léognan appellation. The men and women who have made wine at Cruzeau since the 17th century have always worked hard to bring out its intrinsic personality and bouquet with hints of truffle and forest floor.
Rich and Powerful
Cabernet Sauvignon 55% / Merlot 43% / Cabernet Franc 2%.
The weather was ideal in 2005 and produced a superb vintage in Bordeaux. It was exceptionally dry for the region from winter to autumn. Sunshine was substantial starting in late spring. Summer temperatures were high, but there was nothing approaching a heat wave.
Garnet, good density.
The nose is open, with dark chocolate notes.
Dense upfront, coffee and ripe fruit. Good tannic structure, licorice finish. Deserves to age a few more years in bottle before drinking.
From the famous empire builder and château owner André Lurton, Cruzeau’s 2005 is a soft, cedary, graphite-laden wine with an inky purple color, medium to full body, and soft tannins in a forward, opulent style. This is a beauty from Cruzeau and one of the best I have tasted from this property. Drink it over the next 4-7 years. Drink: 2015 – 2022.

La Presse Montréal - This is an old friend, always well crafted, particularly so in this excellent vintage. Has body, already displays mature characteristics and for this reason can be enjoyed now, even though it will last a good few years more.

Hight recommanded - Smoky cedary, mineral nose. Rich dark cassis fruit. Smoky smooth palate. Plenty of depth. Fine but firm tannins. From 2014-2024.
This shows crushed berry on the nose, with hints of sweet tobacco and cedar. Full – to medium-bodied, with soft tannins and a coffee, toasty oak and ripe fruit aftertaste. Subtle and interesting. Best after 2012.
Lots of blackberry and violet aromas follow through to a full-bodied palate with soft tannins and a medium finish. (James Suckling)
