The wines of Rochemorin were much appreciated in the 18th century by the lord of the manor, who was none other than Charles Louis de Secondat, Baron de Montesquieu. The famous philosopher and author of "The Spirit of the Laws" was full of praise for these vivacious aromatic wines. You too will be delighted with the honeysuckle, blackcurrant bud, pineapple, apple and pear flavours that combine marvellously on the palate. The wines are also full-bodied, juicy and very fresh. The smoky finish reflects the unique gravel terroir in Pessac-Léognan.
Tender and Aromatic
100% Sauvignon blanc
There was record rainfall during the first half of 2013. Spring was very cool, even cold (May and June), and this caused a major delay in vine growth (flowering). Much more clement weather (warm and sunny) arrived in July and lasted until the harvest.
This 2013 is a brilliant, clear, pale yellow colour with silver highlights.
The nose is lovely and fresh, revealing overtones of white flowers (acacia), apricot, peach, citrus (grapefruit), and honey. This wine successfully reflects Pessac-Leognan's great gravelly terroir.
It is smooth and well-balanced on the palate, with a host of flavours (apricot, peach, citron, and a slight saltiness on the finish). Exceedingly fresh, this 2013 provides great pleasure and is in its element with seafood, fish, and cheeses.
2015/2016 Edition - Very classic and elegant with a subtle bouquet of pistachio, mango, citrus, menthol, and smoke. The aromatics follow through on the palate, which displays a soft, tight tannic texture, a long aftertaste, and plenty of vivaciousness.
Nose of citrus, acacia blossom, and minerals. Attractively full-bodied and aromatic on the palate.
Good clear and lifted fruit. Drink: 2014-2015. (Steven Spurrier)
Light green nuances and silver highlights, but unfortunately a yeasty note detracts from the flavour. Smoky, spicy overtones as well as hints of fresh grapefruit zest and green sweet peppers. Lively white fruit on the palate with crisp acidity, depth, and a lemony touch on the finish. A versatile summer wine. (Peter Moser)
