Château de Rochemorin White

The wines of Rochemorin were much appreciated in the 18th century by the lord of the manor, who was none other than Charles Louis de Secondat, Baron de Montesquieu. The famous philosopher and author of "The Spirit of the Laws" was full of praise for these vivacious aromatic wines. You too will be delighted with the honeysuckle, blackcurrant bud, pineapple, apple and pear flavours that combine marvellously on the palate. The wines are also full-bodied, juicy and very fresh.  The smoky finish reflects the unique gravel terroir in Pessac-Léognan.

2015 white Château de Rochemorin label
Appellation : Pessac-Léognan

Wine style

Tender and Aromatic

Grape blend

Sauvignon blanc 100%

2015 was the third warmest year since 1900... Drought conditions, above-average monthly temperatures and sunshine (in the first half of the year), cool nights and hot weather in August accompanying véraison (colour change) were all ideal for the vines!

Tasting Comment

This 2015 Rochemorin has a lovely pale yellow colour with lively golden highlights.

The interesting, complex bouquet is very floral, with overtones of white fruit (peach, nectarine, etc.)

This wine is balanced and displays superb acidity as well as elegant white fruit flavours (peach and nectarines) reminiscent of the nose. It goes beautifully with fish and seafood, quiche, etc.

Ratings and reviews

Le Guide Hachette :

2018 Edition - This classic wine with a golden colour and slightly amber highlights, made from aromatic Sauvignon Blanc grapes, has an exuberant bouquet with empyreumatic cocoa, vanilla, and brioche aromas acquired during ten months' ageing in barrel. A touch of acidity gives a lively first impression on the palate, bringing out the oaky hints, with tropical fruit breaking through. 2017-2021. fourchette Veal cutlet with chanterelle mushrooms.

Ripe and engaging. Here we have the Lurton philosophy of freshness married with a ripe vintage - and it works. (Panos Kakaviatos) :

The 2015 Château de Rochemorin Blanc, from the Vignobles André Lurton stable, has a fragrant bouquet of fresh lime, gooseberry and white flowers that is very charming. The palate is crisp and lively with a fine seam of acidity, impressive weight in the mouth with a spicy finish that completes what is a delicious white Bordeaux. This is recommended and will hopefully represent good value for money. (Neal Martin)

Juicy gooseberry and green grassy edging to this 100% Sauvignon Blanc. A touch short, this has a lovely firm attack but a little soft on the finish. But a good-quality example of a clean, fresh Pessac white. Drink 2016 - 2023. :

Good lift and freshness. Bone dry end. Solid and lightly smoky. A hint of incense?! Excellent vitality. Drink 2017 - 2021.
