Château de Rochemorin White

The wines of Rochemorin were much appreciated in the 18th century by the lord of the manor, who was none other than Charles Louis de Secondat, Baron de Montesquieu. The famous philosopher and author of "The Spirit of the Laws" was full of praise for these vivacious aromatic wines. You too will be delighted with the honeysuckle, blackcurrant bud, pineapple, apple and pear flavours that combine marvellously on the palate. The wines are also full-bodied, juicy and very fresh.  The smoky finish reflects the unique gravel terroir in Pessac-Léognan.

2016 white Château de Rochemorin label
Appellation : Pessac-Léognan

Wine style

Tender and Aromatic

Grape blend

100% Sauvignon

Weather

2016 was one of the finest vintages in the past 20 years. Winter was exceptionally wet and mild, and it rained a great deal in spring until June. However, the weather changed radically in mid-June, turning warm and quite dry, with cool nights. Ideal conditions for growing excellent wine grapes!

Tasting Comment

Appearance

Brilliant, clear, and lovely pale yellow.

Nose

Elegant with hints of white flowers (elderberry), ripe citrus, and understated toasty oak.

Mouth

This 100% Sauvignon Blanc starts out straightforward, beautifully crisp, balanced, and elegant. The acidity is well-integrated and complemented by pink grapefruit and white fruit (nectarines, peach) flavours. The aftertaste is long, expressive, and very fruity with a kiss of oak. It makes an ideal partner for smoked salmon, fish dishes, and quiche lorraine.

Solid and structured but without the lushness of fruit of the Couhins-Lurton Blanc. When to drink : 2018 – 2021.

Elegant, finessed, soft citrus and elderflower. It lacks some concentration through the mid-palate, however. 100% Sauvignon Blanc vinified and aged in oak. Drinking Window 2018 – 2030. (Jane Anson)
