The wines of Rochemorin were much appreciated in the 18th century by the lord of the manor, who was none other than Charles Louis de Secondat, Baron de Montesquieu. The famous philosopher and author of "The Spirit of the Laws" was full of praise for these vivacious aromatic wines. You too will be delighted with the honeysuckle, blackcurrant bud, pineapple, apple and pear flavours that combine marvellously on the palate. The wines are also full-bodied, juicy and very fresh. The smoky finish reflects the unique gravel terroir in Pessac-Léognan.
Tender and Aromatic
100% Sauvignon
2018 was one of the warmest years since 1900, featuring above-average temperatures, the second hottest summer to date, and abundant sunshine… Heavy rainfall in the first half of the year was followed by persistent, near-record drought conditions in September.
Pale-yellow colour scattered with silver highlights.
The nose is wonderfully intense, featuring aromas of yellow fruit (peach, nectarine) and lemon zest enhanced by hints of vanilla.
Starts out smooth on the palate. Roundness and volume are the two main qualities of this wine, displaying superb structure and balance between richness and freshness. Retronasal aromas of lemon zest follow through to the palate, accounting for the wine's impressive length and lovely freshness on the finish. Ideal served with asparagus and smoked salmon, jumbo prawns in curry sauce or sea bream with lemon grass.
Pale yellow colour. A fine and wonderfully lively bouquet, featuring citrus and peach aromas, accompanied by herbal notes (chamomile and lemon zest). Incredibly fine, fresh, juicy, and pure, this wine is light as a dancer yet tight, with very good acidity and a salty tang on the finish, which is both surprising and elegant. Well done! 2020-2028. Very precise on the nose, displaying powerful aromas of fruit and yellow flowers, alongside beautiful minerality. Straightforward, unctuous and very rich, yet incredibly fresh on the palate. A delicious, aromatic, and well-balanced wine made to the highest standards.
The Lurtons know what they are doing with white wines, and this year have done a very good job of delivering. Straight off the first nose you can tell there's interest here: it's juicy and focussed with a kick on the finish, providing plenty of interest in the glass. 41hl/ha yield. Ageing is on lees.
